Growing up, I had many insecurities - my acne-piqued complexion, frizzy hair, dandruff, and the list goes on. It took a hit on my confidence as my concerns were brushed off by people around me. I was almost always the target for criticisms on my appearance during gatherings, and was judged for having “white spots” (a.k.a dandruff) on my clothes. I remember wanting very much to change the way I look by putting on makeup and going for skin and hair treatments but was then again labelled as being “vain” and superficial at my age. It took me years and much courage before I decided that I no longer want to be the subject of such criticisms. There is NO SHAME in having pimples, NO SHAME in suffering from frizzy hair and dandruff and NO SHAME in wanting to give the best version of yourselves to the world.
